Why shouldn't the media do what they do? Famous people signed up exactly for that. Once you are famous, all of that comes with it. Paparazzi, magazine covers, everything.

Kirkwood Community College's library on the main campus provides students and the public an environment in which to read, study and conduct research using a variety of media. But what if you are a student who needs to use a computer while in the library and they're all in use? What if someone is interfering with your ability to concentrate?

If they are asked politely, non-students who aren't working on something important usually will make way for students who need to do schoolwork, said Nancy Obermueller, reference librarian.

I recently spent 14 months traveling around the world. To many people, this seems crazy, but not to me.

My love of travel dates back to my childhood trips from England (my home until age 12, when we moved to Iowa) to visit relatives in America. I took my first of several backpacking trips through Europe at 15, which sparked a desire for a global backpacking adventure.
Their last film together was "The Departed," for which Scorsese won his first Academy Award for best director. "Shutter Island" is the fourth picture they have worked on together and is comparable to their previous work.

Lawmakers in Washington, D.C., may have an impact on the music selection on your radio dial.

Since the middle of the 20th century, the recording industry and performing artists have had a deal with radio: free play for free promotion.

According to Dennis Green, general manager of Kirkwood Community College's jazz station, KCCK, this worked well if the performing artist wrote the song.

KCCK, the jazz and blues station based at Kirkwood Community College, ended its weeklong spring on-air fund drive Wednesday.

Since KCCK is a public radio station, it relies on government grants and support from Kirkwood and listeners.

Dennis Green, KCCK general manager, said government grants cover 18 percent to 20 percent of the station's operating costs.
