Starting from a concrete shell, Kirkwood Community College interior design students competed to renovate an urban loft in downtown Cedar Rapids. A layout by Laura Shuckmann-Gluck, a second-year interior design major, was selected as the winning entry out of 21 submitted.

A dead prom queen, a cactus and a Christmas present. What do they have in common? They are all Halloween costumes that can be made using recycled clothing and accessories. Last-minute Halloween costumes can be made with very little effort. Kirkwood Community College business major Ryley Schleder said all he needs to do is put on a baseball cap and boots and he's ready to go as a farmer.

Doug Hall - Art Instructor

Art instructor Doug Hall recently celebrated his 40th year at Kirkwood Community College Hall has taught many classes including painting, drawing and his favorite, printmaking. Hall received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Iowa, where he worked as an assistant to the famous printmaker, Mauricio Lasansky Hall said Kirkwood has changed a lot in 40 years.

For all who take pride in dressing up for Halloween, Student Life will be hosting a costume contest today. Students are encouraged to dress up in costumes for the chance to win prizes. According to Seth Vander Tuig, Student Life coordinator, prizes range from candy to bookstore and Hy-Vee gift cards.

Student Life will host family-oriented party Friday at Kirkwood's campus in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - Pull out the masks. It's time for the Iowa City Campus' annual Halloween party. The event will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, on the first floor of the main building of Kirkwood's Iowa City campus. Jon Weih, director of Student Life for Iowa City, said the event is for all ages, including the children of students.
