Undoubtedly, one of the biggest surprises at PlayStation’s most recent showcase was the announcement of Spider-Man 2. Although we sensed that its confirmation would come at some point, few expected that it would be just three months after the release of Ratchet & Clank: A Dimension Apart, also developed by Insomniac Games. So, as the weeks go by, we know more details about the expected sequel, which will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5.
During an interview on the This Week in Marvel podcast, Bill Rosemann, creative vice president of Marvel Games, assured that. Spider-Man 2 will be darker than its predecessor.. Evidently, the director is not referring to the visual style, but to the story. In fact, Rosemann compares Spider-Man 2 to Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, a feature film in which the villains play a major role. Both Darth Vader and Darth Sidious.
Now then, in the case of Spider-Man 2, we know that. Venom will be the main antagonist. Considering that the symbiote has proven to be a serious rival to the arachnid, especially in the comics, it wouldn’t be strange for Insomniac Games to make the most of the character. Not only in terms of gameplay, but also in terms of narrative. Plus, Peter Parker won’t be alone in his adventure, as he’ll be accompanied by Miles Morales.
Mind you, the above doesn’t mean that Venom will be the only villain. In fact, Spider-Man 2 will follow the path of the previous installment and feature a compelling roster of antagonists. “There are multiple enemies. I can say that the story continues and goes from Marvel’s Spider-Man to Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales,” Rosemann said. We’ll have to wait until 2022 to see if, indeed, the story manages to convey that darkness.
“Secrets” in the first teaser for Wolverine?
Beyond Spider-Man 2, Rosemann likewise weighed in on. Wolverine the other title Insomniac Games is working on. The executive noted that the first teaser, also unveiled at the latest PS5 showcase, includes several easter eggs. One of them has already been discovered by the community: In the bar, next to the bottles, you can see a plaque with the designation “HLK 181”. This would be a reference to the comic The Incredible Hulk #181 where Wolverine appeared for the first time – not counting a cameo in an earlier issue. Will we see the green giant in this game? Some think so.
