New ‘The Umbrella Academy’ Season 3 Details Revealed

During TUDUM 2021, the event where Netflix unveiled a good portion of the new releases that are on their way to the platform, the third season of The Umbrella Academy had its brief slot. Unfortunately, we only saw the actors telling some facts about their personal lives, and no more. No trailer, no narrative details, nothing. Perhaps because of the complaints that were filed last weekend, the service came out to reveal new information through a teaser.

The first thing Netflix confirmed, which was already an open secret, is that season 3 of The Umbrella Academy will wait until 2022. This, however, shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as the last few months of the year are already occupied by other big productions like Cowboy Bebop (season 2), The Witcher (season 2) and Cobra Kai (season 4), to name a few.

So, new episodes The Umbrella Academy will have to wait their turn until next year. Of course, the specific premiere date is still pending. Considering that filming wrapped at the end of August, it’s very likely that we’ll be able to enjoy it during the first half of 2022. It’s certainly one of Netflix’s main banners for the next year, along with the long-awaited Stranger Things 4.

On the narrative front, it’s already a fact that the chapters will be based on Hotel Oblivion. If you’ve been able to read The Umbrella Academy comics, you probably know that this is the third volume of the saga, which also introduces The Umbrella Academy. Sparrow Academy. Gerard Way, writer of the comics, tells that in this place Reginald Hargreeves had as prisons the villains defeated by his academy. Another interesting point is that the hotel is out of reality.

No one can escape from the hotel. is the phrase with which the 7 chapters of the volume were promoted. Here it is worth mentioning that, after Hotel Oblivion, The Umbrella Academy comics have not had more volumes despite leaving the door open to a continuation. This makes us think that The third season might be the last. Unless, of course, Netflix takes the liberty of continuing the narrative on its own. In the first two seasons there are major changes from the comics – even new characters – then we wouldn’t be surprised. In 2022 we’ll find out.
