Dig a little deeper before the vote

Gay marriage is an important civil rights issue that has finally found its place in the public forum. Little did anyone know the debate over this issue would spread across the country faster than a celebrity sex-tape. To be sure, the issue of gay marriage deserves our attention.

Drilling for oil in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) is not the answer to U.S. dependence from foreign energy. Such drilling would undeniably put the native wildlife in jeopardy and provide only a temporary source of fuel that would take at least ten years to harvest.

Reserves of between 1.9 and 9.4 billion barrels of oil are believed to exist in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), with other deposits located in the nearby National Petroleum Reserve, according to anwr.org. Although there are many negative effects to drilling for natural resources in the ANWR, many political leaders are pushing to open the land to drilling.

Ten years ago last month, Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain committed suicide. I must admit when Nirvana first came out I didn't get them. I was one of the girls stuck on the "glam" rockers of the 1980s, Poison, Warrant, Bon Jovi and Slaughter, and a huge fan of Madonna and Janet Jackson and others.

Sometimes my fellow Kirkwood students disappoint me. Here's a conversation I overheard recently: "I'm so stressed. I just tried to sign up for classes but my schedule is all screwed up." "Didn't you get the classes you wanted?" "Yeah but for one class, I wanted a specific teacher but her class was full, so I had to sign up for a different teacher.

Apparently, the prime example of liberal "disdain and bitterness" has reared its head. Thank you for proving my point. You Democrats offer such inspiring and groundbreaking ideas; people must be clamoring to register D. The bold initiatives that President Bush has put forth have changed the world and the way America asserts itself.
