After a year and a half of anxiously waiting for a team to take the court, all of Cedar Rapids was ready to get the season underway. "Everybody around here is excited about the great start," said Sean McLaughlin the Raiders general manager and director of operations.
While the national tournament may be a typical goal for any one of Kirkwood teams, the softball team has had some atypical challenges on their way to the national tournament. The Eagles have had injured players who have major roles on the team. "This is something we haven't had to deal with before, we are trying to get some people ready and keep everyone else healthy," commented Jim Overturf, Kirkwood's head softball coach.
The Kirkwood golf team has done "pretty well; so far we're 46-9," said Darin Pint, Kirkwood's head golf coach. "We've won some tournaments and finished third in others. With four freshmen and one sophomore we are a fairly young team. It's encouraging because the freshmen are finding out what it takes to play college golf," said Pint.
