The Kirkwood golf team has done "pretty well; so far we're 46-9," said Darin Pint, Kirkwood's head golf coach.
"We've won some tournaments and finished third in others. With four freshmen and one sophomore we are a fairly young team. It's encouraging because the freshmen are finding out what it takes to play college golf," said Pint.
For the rest of the season Coach Pint expects his players to "go into the tournaments with a positive attitude and to keep playing and keep improving. To accomplish this we have to play with confidence, and keep doing what we've been doing."
Pint said his team needs to be more consistent. "We might be playing well but we take a high number on a hole. Taking big numbers on a round is our main problem," he said.
"T.J. Redding is our most consistent player. He has a stroke average of 74.5; he has won one tournament and finished in the top 10 in three others," said Pint. "Also, Andy White won at Hunter's ridge golf course and he has a 78.1 stroke average."
"This year we have more talent than in recent years; we have guys that understand the game of golf," Pint said. "The guys are determined. They want to win and want success."
The Regional tournament is April 30 through May 3.
There are eight teams participating in the tournament. The top team goes to the National Tournament in Phoenix.
The top five individuals also qualify for the National Tournament held May 25-28.
