Since 2004 Iowa has been blessed with the existence of the Miracles of God. This isn't some religious hoax; its one hell of a band. They bring to Eastern Iowa's music scene something that is desperately needed: Style and creativity. The Miracles play loud guitar-heavy music, and have an awesome array of original material at their disposal. Their eclectic sounds are almost comparable to the likes of Weezer or Ween, Flaming Lips or David Bowie, and their energetic stage presence is sure to win over hard core fans of rock.
Samples from their first album, as well as general information about the band, can be found at www.miraclesofgod.net. "From the Depths of Hell" is 12 tracks of joy. The only disappointment is that it's only 31 minutes long. Virtually every song is a different genre than the last. "Nixon's Brain" is easily the heaviest track, a thrashing head bangers delight. "Take me to the Church," the album's resolution, is almost a funeral dirge, containing zany lyrics like, "Ride with me, we'll do taxes."
Sadly enough, during a recent tour, the band experienced what they describe as a "terrible car crash," in which two of the members were injured. According to their web site they should be playing shows again soon, so stay tuned. When in good health, they tend to play around the Iowa City area, namely at places like Gabe's Oasis. Unless you're scared of good music, check these guys out some time.
