After completing the Associate of Arts (A.A.) or the Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree, many Kirkwood and junior college students face a difficult choice: Choosing both what school they should and would like to go to next and if they can afford it.  Much of that decision can be based on whether the colleges that are being considered are private or public.  Many differences exist between the two kinds of schools both in very general and specific ways.
There is always the cost factor that is attributed to the consideration of any private college that usually drives people away from even considering it.
There is a considerable amount of money that is required to be spent at the average private school in Iowa.  Most in state tuition costs for a public school plus room and board hover at around $10,000.  It is double that for the majority of private schools in the state of Iowa.  The reason for this is that there is far less state and federal aid given to a private school and so they are prompted to raise their tuition to a substantially higher price to compensate for what a public school receives fiscally.
There are some academic benefits when it comes to attending a private school that might be worth your money.  Most teacher to student ratios are far better at a private college than at a public one for example.  Both because of the lower enrollment and the school's ability to pay better than most public schools.  And in Iowa, nearly every private school ranks highly in their comprehensive bachelors program.
