Issue date: 2/17/05 Section: Opinion

The Communiqué always strives for a high level of professionalism, whether it be in form of an interview, covering an event, writing a story or designing the paper. To maintain this professionalism the Communiqué has an ethics policy of its own which is within the code of ethics as defined by the College Media Advisers.
The Communiqué's policy on editing photographs is that under no circumstances will news photos be altered. "Photos should not be altered to present false impressions. If they are altered, a label should clearly tell the reader about the alteration," from the "College Media Advising: Ethics and Responsibilities." Other photographs, such as A&E, Feature and Opinion photos may be altered if needed for aesthetic purposes. If a photo is edited it is labeled as a photo illustration and regarded as such.
The Communiqué also does not release any unpublished material whether it be stories or photographs. This policy was put into place to protect the Communiqué as unpublished work may be of poor quality, contain controversial material or include inaccurate information.
The Communiqué is a student run organization that works hard to report events to our audience that are accurate and nonpartisan.
In the last edition of the Communiqué (2/3) on page four there was a full-page spread on body language. The photographs were digitally altered and should have been labeled as a photo illustration but due to an oversight the photo illustrations were incorrectly labeled as photographs. We regret the mistake and will continue to strive for a level of professionalism that readers can trust.
