The humid days of summer have given way to the cool days of fall - and the MLB playoffs are underway.
The final four teams are now slugging it out to decide who will represent their respective leagues in the World Series.
The Chicago White Sox, the masters of 'small ball,' are the team that seems to do everything right. With timely pitching and clutch hitting, the White Sox have the whole package. Their double-barrelled pitching machine of Jon Garland and Mark Buehrle contributed to one of the league's lowest team ERAs.
"The White Sox have the best pitching and they hit well," said Kirkwood student and baseball fan Troy Armstrong.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim were one of the most consistent teams all year. Vlad Guerrero's .317 batting average powered the Angels to the AL West crown. The Angels' obscure pitching staff also contributed to the team's success with an ERA of 3.67.
The Houston Astros grew as a team as the season progressed. Their three-ace pitching unit of Roger Clemens, Roy Oswalt and Andy Pettitte contributed to their success more than their streaky hitting. However, Morgan Ensberg was the lone big bat with a batting average of .283.
The St. Louis Cardinals were perhaps the most dominant team all season with MVP candidate Albert Pujols and Cy Young candidate Chris Carpenter, the Cardinals. The Cardinals' starting rotation alone combined for 80 wins on the season, which showed the Cardinals' balance between power hitting and great pitching as they collected the winningest record in the National League this season.
One can only guess which one of these four deserving teams who will win the title of World Champion but sports fans will watch it all unfold with great enthusiasm and enjoy the last remaining weeks of the season.
