Kirkwood Student Productions was founded in the fall of 1990 by students and former Communications Media instructor Rich Underwood. Underwood currently works as a professor of speech. KSP was founded because students wanted to do more than what the broadcasting program offered at the time.

Coffee Talk Café is the perfect place for any college student. Located on the corner of Kirkwood Boulevard and Kirkwood Court, the café opened the first week of October. Owners Buzzy and Sheree Castonguay said their initial intent was to provide a relaxing and fun atmosphere for students looking for a place to enjoy a warm cup of joe, a small bite to eat, a quiet study area or maybe just place to lounge and watch TV.
The Cedar Valley Divide's staff of four has received a National Award from the Community College Humanities Association Annual Literary Magazine Competition in 2005. The literary magazine was the only recipient of the Most Improved award in the Central Division.
