"I've never been out of college," said Student Life Director Jon Weih. "My life has been lived on semesters and terms. Students always remain the same age, while I continue to grow older."

Weih has been employed by Kirkwood Community College for the past 17 years. It's his dream job.

He enjoys "building relationships with students, getting to know them and bringing joy to other peoples' lives. I'm like the head cheerleader and the campus dad. Students come to me for all sorts of issues."

Weih has been Student Life Director at the Kirkwood Community College Iowa City campus for three years.

"Helping organize student government, various events and providing opportunities for students to grow," are some of the duties Weih said he performs.

Weih said the biggest challenge of his job is finding ways to get students engaged and involved. He recalled that while he was in college, he happened to walk through hallways and not pay attention to flyers and bulletins that were posted.

"There are a lot of missed opportunities that students have while in college," he said.

In his free time, Weih said he enjoys being a dad and a husband. "Meeting my wife and raising a family with her is the most enjoyable thing that has happened to me," he said.

Weih also volunteers his time to his church and is working on the Concern for Women board.

"I'm a strong believer in giving back what has been given to you," he said about his life experiences and his job.
