Fire's cause still unknown

On the morning of Oct. 27 between 4:30 and 5 a.m. a fire ravaged a Kirkwood Courts' apartment building. According to an article in the Oct. 28 issue of the Gazette, Krissy Stillmunkes, who was staying in the apartment where the fire originated, was injured when she jumped from the second story window after she was unable to escape through the front door.

KCRG airs only report of Kirkwood assault

No record of incident reported to campus security to C.R. police

The only report of an alleged assault on the Kirkwood Community College campus Oct. 22 was the one that aired on a local television station Oct. 24. According to Carrie Hendricks, a second year nursing major, on Oct. 22 she was jogging in the early evening near the truck driving range on the south side of the Cedar Rapids campus when a dark colored car pulled over and a passenger in the vehicle asked for directions.

Equestrian fire causes $20,000 worth of damage

The students and faculty of the Horse Science Technology program were roused from their daily routines at the Equestrian Center last week to discover a horse barn ablaze. Students discovered the fire in the early afternoon on Nov. 2 and called an instructor who contacted the Cedar Rapids Fire Department.

Eagle Circle Dorms and College Park Apartments are two examples of apartment complexes near Kirkwood Community College. The names lead many to believe the complexes are strictly for Kirkwood students but the property management has now made the apartments available to nonstudents.

While most picture an 11 hour class as less than ideal, one such class could land job-seekers a six-figure salary. This has happened for several people after taking an employment seminar. Kirkwood offers a weekend seminar for one credit hour that focuses on how to get a real job.
