Eagles shooting for a successful finish

Eagle men and women both exceeding expectations this season

The Kirkwood Eagles basketball teams have heated up the courts for the first three months of the season. Both the men and women's teams are currently ranked number one in the NJCAA Division II rankings.

The men, led by coach Doug Wagemester, have compiled a 17-2 record this season while going 4-0 in conference play. Their most recent win came against Clinton on Jan. 21, when the Eagles were victorious by 21 points. Kirkwood has defeated opponents by an average of 19.8 points in their 17 wins.

The Eagles are led by sophomores Fred Dudley and Shaun Logan along with freshman Adam Rodenberg. Dudley is Kirkwood's scoring leader with an average of 15.8 points per game, while shooting 53.6 percent from the floor.

Dudley is also racking up 6.8 rebounds per game and is currently ranked in the top 10 in scoring average, total points, free throw percentage, total rebounds and player efficiency rating.

Logan is currently leading the Eagles in boards with 7.6 per game, while also scoring 13.6 points per game. Rodenberg averages over 10 points per game, with 13.9 points per game to go along with his 6.9 boards per game.

Sophomore Grant Hargett is the team's deep threat, with a shooting percentage of 47.6 percent from beyond the arc, while Julius Moor is leading the team in assists with 3.6 dimes per game.

As a whole the Kirkwood Eagles have averaged 77.9 points per contest while only allowing opponents to score 60.9 points per game.

The Eagles have at least one player ranked in the top ten in almost every statistical category, including four players ranked in total rebounds; two in assist average and three in player efficiency rating.

Moor also ranks in the Top 10 in two categories: assist-to-turnover ratio (3.4, ranked first) and steal-to-turnover ratio (1.3, ranked fourth).

As for the women, Coach Kim Muhl has led them to a 16-4 record (4-1 in conference play). Their recent contrast was a two-point loss to rival Des Moines Area Community College.
