An employee at Kirkwood's Green House Grill suffered injuries Wednesday afternoon. Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Department were called along with paramedics. Campus security was also at the scene.

The female employee was taken away by paramedics and her condition was unknown, although one person among the emergency personnel said she may have suffered a burn to the hand or arm.

Student Brandon Fritze was in the diner when the incident occurred.

"The big guy with the mustache came out and asked for help and asked if there was a nurse," Fritze said.

More details will be available in this Communique web exclusive as they become known.

Paramedics rushed to Kirkwood's Green House Grill Wednesday after an employee at the diner collapsed.

A former Kirkwood student, Cami Anderson, 28, collapsed while working. The manager of the Green House Grill, Ray Offerman, said Anderson was working at a grill when she collapsed.

A fellow employee heard Anderson fall and called for assistance. Offerman said that while calling 911, he also yelled out for a nurse since many nursing students eat there.

Tom Spartz, a campus security guard, said security was called after the 911 call was made. Cedar Rapids police and fire units were also on site. An EMT declined to give details on Anderson's condition at the scene, saying only that it was a medical emergency.

"Cami must have grabbed the grill to brace herself," explained Offerman. "She had a large burn on her arm."

Anderson was taken to Mercy Hospital for further treatment.

Kirkwood's campus nurse, Becky Hammond, said she was not made aware of the incident.

Offerman said he spoke to Anderson Thursday morning by telephone but declined to release her condition.
