For those who want to stay active this summer, Iowa City has a variety of opportunities in the sports and recreation area.
This summer, the University of Iowa is hosting sand volleyball intramurals, offered at the cost of $40 per team. Teams consist of six people with a minimum of two women per team. All games will be played at the Hawkeye Recreation Fields with play beginning June 14 and 15. Registration forms with fees need to be completed and turned in to the Recreational Services Main Office located in the Fieldhouse Building on the University of Iowa campus. These forms should be turned in no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7. For more information on rules and schedules, visit the University of Iowa's Division of Recreational Services.
For Iowa sports fans, there are plenty of home games for both the men's baseball and women's softball teams. Also, the men's and women's track and field will be competing throughout the spring. For more information on teams and scheduling, visit Hawkeyesports.com.
The Terrill Mill Park, which is located on Dubuque Street by the Iowa River and Mayflower Residence Hall, is an outlet for people who skateboard. This park offers residents an open and well designed skate park that is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
For those who are a little more adventurous, The Iowa Sailing Club (ISC) could be worth exploring. The ISC provides boats and sailing instructions to U of I students as well as members of the community. This club is located 20 minutes north of Iowa City on the south arm of Lake Macbride.
