Summertime in Iowa City offers an opportunity for those who appreciate the outdoors to explore the abundance of hiking trails and camping areas. Three popular area sites include Macbride Nature Recreation Area (MNRA), Coralville Lake (A.K.A. The Reservoir) and F.W. Kent Park.

For those interested in a campsite that some might consider a bit "rustic" look no further than Lake Macbride. Located 15 miles north of Iowa City on Mehaffey Bridge Road, MNRA is one of the largest wooded areas in Johnson County. It is a 485-acre tract of land leased by the University of Iowa from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, under the direction of the Division of Recreational Services.

The Reservoir, a bit closer to Iowa City, and possibly a little more family friendly. It offers a beach, three boat access ramps and over 500 campsites managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. There is also an 18-hole disk golf course and numerous hiking trails at The Reservoir.

One of Iowa's most popular "public use" parks is F.W. Kent Park. This picturesque 1,082-acre park is located three miles west of Tiffin on Highway 6. A 27-acre lake, which contains catfish, large mouth bass, bluegill, walleye and crappie, provides the angler with many fishing opportunities. Citizens are invited to explore the prairies, forests and wetlands or stay for a weekend of camping, swimming, fishing or hiking.
