Students interested in gaining a competitive edge in the field of journalism are encouraged to apply for a position with Kirkwood Community College's student newspaper.

There are a variety of positions available, some of which include reporting, photography, cartoonist, advertising sales, Web site management, layout, copy editing and circulation. Students may also apply to be a section editor for news, opinion, feature, sports or arts and entertainment. All positions are paid and those interested should stop by the newsroom to pick up an application.

To learn more about how the newspaper operates, sign up for the Communiqué Orientation, a one-credit class scheduled Aug. 15-17, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Aug. 20, from 1 - 5 p.m. Students will undergo training, conduct interviews, write articles, take pictures, edit articles, proofread and design the layout of the Communiqué Preview Edition. Participants will also distribute the paper during the Movin' and Shakin' event on Aug. 20.

The Communiqué meets each Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the newsroom, 113F Linn Hall. The first meeting is scheduled Aug. 21.
