Going for the pin is a term of 10 used in golf. However, the Kirkwood Community College golf team is doing more than going for the pin this season, they are shooting for a national title.

The 2007 Eagles golf team currently has a team record of 32 wins and four losses. Included in that record are two first place finishes at Culver Stockton golf course and Iowa Central. The Eagles also have two third place team finishes.

According to Head Golf Coach Darin Pint, the season has "Gone fairly well. I think our freshman are starting to gain confidence." Pint added that other positive aspects include, "Our [team] chemistry, our guys enjoy being around each other and they are competitive. We have seven guys who could play number one any day of the week."

Last year the Eagles ended the season with a second place finish nationally. However, the difference from last year and this year is the Eagles had sophomore leadership. This year the Eagles have had to overcome the issue of no returning players from last year's team.

Pint added the difference between last year and this year is, "Four of our top guys were sophomores. Last year we had two or three guys who could go low."

That does not mean that the 2007 version of the Eagles does not have some star power of their own. Matt Berg had a first place and a second place finish out of four tournaments. Scott Crawford had a first place finish and Cam Jacobs had two top 10 finishes. Pint stated that those three golfers have been the most consistent golfers at practice and in tournament play.

The Eagles have hit the home stretch of their season with regular season wrapping up and regionals coming up May 5-7. Coach Pint said the team needs to work on "staying away from being stagnant and keep working on our goals and have more consistency."
