Kirkwood student-athletes compete for wins and losses against other colleges but for those students who just want to meet new people and have fun, intramurals is the way to go. Kirkwood offers a wide variety of intramurals ranging from basketball and volleyball to a Texas Hold'em Poker tournament.

Students can sign up for intramurals by filling out an intramural team sports roster at the Michael J. Gould Rec Center located on the north side of campus. Students may also sign up by calling the Rec Center at 398-5596.

According to Recreation and Housing Services Director Josh Troutman, students who want to participate in intramurals but can't find a team are encouraged to go to the Rec Center and fill out an intramural sports free agent form. Students who fill out a free agent form will either be placed on an all free agents team, or may possibly be placed on an already existing team.

Only current Kirkwood students are able to participate in the intramural sports program. Students are required to bring their EagleCard to all events.

According to Troutman, students are encouraged to suggest additional events or leagues. Students may suggest a new event or league by calling the Rec Center.

Unlike most events all intramural sports are free, with the exception of golf, which will have a minimal fee since it is not held on Kirkwood property. It is important to note that students may sign up for as many events as they would like but students are asked to fill out a new form for each event. All indoor events will be held at the Rec Center and all outside events are held on the soccer fields north of Linn Hall.

A new event to be held this year is a men's and women's ping-pong tournament that begins on Monday, Nov. 26. Other new events are the three-on-three basketball tournament and a four-on-four volleyball tournament held during the Movin' & Shakin' festivities today. Seven-on-seven flag football is also back by popular demand.

Additional Kirkwood intramural sports information is available at the Rec Center or online at www.kirkwood.edu.
