Mentors help students ease way into college life

Commuters traveling on I-380 have probably noticed the construction taking place throughout Cedar Rapids. This is an effort by the City of Cedar Rapids to upgrade the condition of the interstate.
Kathy Cutler, planner for the department of transportation in Cedar Rapids said, "The city of Cedar Rapids conducts a repatching project every year until October."
Usually constructions begin during the summer season. Cutler also stated that the construction location varies from year to year.
She went on to explain that construction workers renovate one patch of the road and then move on to another; that way traffic is not always condensed in the same areas. Current construction is focused on I-380 from Cedar Rapids to Waterloo.
Kirkwood students should also keep in mind that there is construction near the campus for housing developments. Additionally, next year major construction efforts are on schedule for I-380 from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City, Cutler said. That project should last about one to two years.
According to Cutler, until the contract is finalized, the exact length of the project will not be known. Many KCC students have made preemptive plans to avoid the traffic jams.
In order to get to class on time Bryce Eckley, Music major said, "Either leave early [to class] or take a different route."
