Kirkwood Community College has made the right decision with the new policy designating where individuals can or cannot smoke. This policy has made the campus a cleaner and healthier place.
Due to the new changes, at Kirkwood many students are finding it difficult to locate a place to smoke.
I have heard talk among groups of smokers who are disappointed that designated smoking areas are limited. According to the Communiqué's last edition, smokers are still allowed to smoke outside of 25 percent of the buildings and entrances.
Although this may be an inconvenience to smokers, if has provided a healthier environment for everyone.
While I am not taking sides on whether or not people should or shouldn't smoke, people should not have to be forced to deal with an environment where they are uncomfortable.
I think Kirkwood has made a fair choice in allowing smoking,.Keeping the smokers happy and allowing it only in designated areas also keeps the non-smokers happy.
It really is a win-win situation when you look at it. And, I would say that the reduction in locations to smoke only encourages students to make healthier choices.

I do realize there are limited areas for smokers, but I think they are still too close to the buldings and entrances. It is disturbing and smells disgusting when you are walking from building to building and the first thing you smell is smoke when you walk outside. (Continued…)
