It's a Friday night and after a full week of classes and work the stress seems to be spilling over. One cure for this mounting stress could be a much deserved night on the town enjoying a concert and friends.
Although many Cedar Rapids concert venues have become strictly over 21, in order to keep their liquor licenses, it is still possible to find a club that will accommodate the needs of the under 21 crowd. Venues such as the Picador and the Yacht Club, both in Iowa City, offer shows for audiences under the age of 18.
The Cedar Rapids area offers venues ranging from large event seating to a small club atmosphere and ticket prices that vary from $5-$50. The U.S. Cellular Center ticket prices usually cost from $30-$50. Smaller venues in the area usually charge less than $10 and bring in a smaller crowd with a more personal feel.
The U.S. Cellular Center is located at 370 First Ave. NE and upcoming shows include the Newsboys on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m., the CMT tour scheduled for Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. and Fall Out Boy with Plain White T's on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
The Picador is located at 330 E. Washington St. in Iowa City and upcoming shows include Johnny Cash on Oct.12 at 9:30 p.m., Between The Buried and Me on Oct. 20 at 6 p.m., Evergreen Terrace on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. and Drop Dead Gorgeous on Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
The Yacht Club is in the basement of 13 S. Linn St. in Iowa City and includes a reggae night on Sundays, a blues night on Mondays and holds many Rap shows and tribute bands throughout the week.
