By the time this article is published, the highly anticipated game Halo 3 will already be in Xbox 360 consoles across the Kirkwood Community College campus.
Fans of the series will no doubt be battling out the final chapter in the war between humanity's hero Master Chief and the alien force known as the Covenant. However, Halo fanatics might not want to get too engrossed or else they'll miss some of the other titles gamers have been anxious to see. The fourth quarter of the year always leads to the releases of some solid titles and this year specifically seems to be loaded with impressive games. Besides Halo 3, the Xbox 360 has a few other titles gamers may enjoy coming out before the end of the year. F.E.A.R. Files, an action game with a suspenseful world involving the supernatural, comes out on Nov. 6. Mass Effect, the first of a trilogy of role-playing science fiction games planned by Microsoft, will allow players to command a squad of soldiers fighting against entire armies for peace on Nov. 20.
The Nintendo Wii, which has been the best-selling system every month since last November (ign.com), will try to hold its place at the top with two major releases coming soon. Nintendo's legendary icon Mario will take his classic gameplay into the final frontier with the release of Super Mario Galaxy on Nov.12 and the hit multi-player fighting franchise Super Smash Brothers moves to the Wii on Dec. 3 with Super Smash Brothers Brawl.
Owners of Sony's Playstation 3 may want to look into Folklore, an adventure game with RPG elements and a story that spans seven worlds, which releases on Oct. 9. Also, the popular Ratchet and Clank series returns in all its zaniness on Oct. 23.
Accompanying all the system-exclusive games listed will be some cross-platform titles like the latest in the popular music series Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, which releases on Oct. 29 for the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, PC, Macintosh and both the Playstation 2 and 3.
