Applications are now available for the 2008 All-USA Academic Team and can be picked up at the Arts and Humanities office located in Cedar Hall room 336, at the Student Life office or at the county center offices.
Completed materials must be returned to the Arts and Humanities office by Nov. 9. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have completed 45 semester hours of college-level credit hours by Dec. 31, 2007 to apply.
The All-USA Academic Team is sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa and USA TODAY. Four Kirkwood nominees will receive $500 stipends from the Kirkwood Board of Trustees and represent Kirkwood in the national competition where 20 first team winners will receive a $2,500 stipend and members of the first, second and third teams will receive national press coverage in USA TODAY on April 7.
In addition, this single application could result in multiple scholarship opportunities for each nominee. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and the Coca-Cola Foundation offer 50 $2,000 stipends for the highest scoring student in the All-USA Academic Team competition in each state. In addition, 34 states offer All-State Academic Team programs where nominees may be awarded local scholarships. Lastly, many students report back that being nominated assisted them with being accepted to select institutions and/or competitive academic programs.
More information can be found at http://www.ptk.org/schol/aaat/announce.htm . Students who have questions should contact Jennifer Bradley, dean of Arts and Humanities, at 398-4913.
