Free food, free drinks, free activities, free hypnotist, free baseball game, free live band and free carnival games were all included in this year's four-day Movin' and Shakin' welcome festival for Kirkwood Community College students prior to classes starting.
This event did not happen without lots and lots and lots of planning. Also, it took lots and lots and lots of people to make the event the success that it was.
Movin' and Shakin' was a prime example that Kirkwood is not just interested in recruiting students but in retaining them.
Since classes have started the halls have been alive with the sounds of Student Life - more free drinks, more free food and more free activities.
Thanks to the Admission and Student Life staffs, Kirkwood students have been treated to amazing out-of-class experiences.
The Admissions staff, with the help of the Student Life staff, is making every effort to help students connect with their peers.
They really are doing an amazing job. Sure, Student Life and Admissions could have easily not supplied free treats for everyone but their purpose is to make everyone's experience at Kirkwood better.
Food aside, Student Life also sponsors many events around campus.
Recently Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was on campus to speak to students about nature, the environment, as well as issues concerning today's media.
The Student Life and Admissions staffs deserve a hearty pat on the back and a huge thank you for their welcoming efforts this semester.
Students can look forward to more of the continued hospitality.
