A big part of the Halloween season is shopping for the perfect costume. Unfortunately, some of the more creative costume ideas can be costly for college students living on a budget.
For the "High School Musical" fans out there, this Halloween could be "the start of something new." Men could dress as Troy Bolton, the jock longing to sing. To dress as Troy purchase a basketball shirt, athletic shorts and iron-on letters. Then iron-on "East High Wildcats" or "Bolton 23" on your athletic gear.
Another inexpensive costume idea is dressing up as a present. First off, locate a big cardboard box that is easy to fit into. If you don't have a cardboard box, stop by a local business and ask for one. Next, wrap the outside of the box. Be sure not to cover the hole that your head is supposed to stick out of. If you're a guy, you can put a tag on your costume that reads, "To: Women, From: God."
The Facebook costume can be creative but not costly. All that is needed is one piece of poster board and printouts of a Facebook account. Cut out a square where your profile picture would go so you can stick your head through and mingle with people. On the back of the poster board attach a strap that you can stick your arm through and hold the costume in place.
Another easy and inexpensive idea is dressing as a jar of jellybeans. Wear white Underarmor and spandex pants or tights under the costume. To make the jar cut two leg holes and two arm holes in a clear trash bag. Blow up several small multicolored balloons and place them in the bag around your body. Seal the top of the bag around your neck with a colorful ribbon.
Dressing up as a hobo for Halloween is also an affordable costume choice. Stop by a local Salvation Army or Goodwill and pick up the oldest, most worn and just overall dingy clothing you can find.

Hi,
Here is another idea. Go volunteer at a haunted house (such as Frightmare Forest, located on 42nd Street NE, next to Xavier HS), and then ask if you could borrow a costume. (Continued…)
