Getting involved in one of Kirkwood Community College's clubs or organizations can build friendships and memories that last a lifetime.

There are more than 70 clubs and organizations on campus that are geared toward individual interest or offered through a major.

"I encourage everyone to get involved at Kirkwood and connect with other students," stated Tera Smith, admissions adviser.

Smith is the adviser for the Kirkwood Dance Team and Student Ambassadors. She said she has been pleased with the membership outcome for this year. She also explained that the membership for clubs and organizations has increased in recent years.

"This year we had 40 individuals attend the dance team tryouts with 18 making the team. I was very pleased with the outcome," Tera Smith, admissions adviser, stated.

Smith also noted that in the 2006-2007 school year there were 44 students who participated as Student Ambassadors and this year there are approximately 73 active members.

On Oct. 9 a special event was held to showcase the clubs and organizations at Kirkwood. Many of the clubs and organizations took part by handing out information in the Linn Hall lobby.

"There is no fee to join clubs and organizations at Kirkwood," said, Seth Vander Tuig, admissions and student life adviser.

For more information about Kirkwood's clubs and organizations students can stop by the Student Life office in Iowa Hall.
