DMACC fell to the Eagles back in September at Ankeny. Even though the Eagles won on Bear country, the Bears got their revenge by shutting out the Eagles at home.
At the start of game one, DMACC put the pressure on early to have a 7-0 lead. The Bears kept up the aggressiveness throughout the game and dismantled the Eagles 30-14. According to Beth Ripperger, defensive specialist, the Eagles didn't play with enough "intensity" in the first game.
The Eagles came in game two with a different intensity as both teams went point for point. The game was tied 26-26 but a few errors, like touching the net and missed serves, gave the Bears the push they needed to take game two.
The start of game three was competitive but the crowd started to leave during the match when they noticed the Bears pulling away. The Eagles intensity left the match, too as they lost the third and final game 30-17.
" I was disappointed about the game. We needed to come together more in the match and we failed to do that. We weren't on like we usually are and that led to our loss," said Ripperger.
She added, "Last time we beat DMACC and our intensity was on but this time we didn't have it all together. I want to thank the crowd for coming out and supporting us but we failed to use that to our advantage."
The Eagles are 11-20 on the season and 7-1 in their division. They will start regional semifinal play on Nov. 2.
