What results when the hit multi-platform game "Manhunt" gets a sequel on the Wii? An extremely average action game that fails to create a memorable and unique experience. That's not to say that this game is absolutely horrible, it's just absurdly in the middle.
In the first game of the series, "Manhunt" (developed by Rockstar North) placed the player in the life of a man who wakes up in a town of gangs. Guided by the sadistic voice of a man called "The Director," the player travels through violent and gory settings for survival, which "The Director" videotapes for his snuff films.
In this sequel, the game switches to a completely different setting, following a man as he escapes from a mental asylum and tries to discover his past. Sound familiar? It feels like a rip-off of the game "Second Sight," made by Free Radical Design, attempting to create a horror edge.
The annoying part of it all is that after noticing the weak use of the Wii's motion controls, the only thing that was running through my head while playing was "How did a Playstation 2 game get on my Wii?" I found very little to justify this game being put on the next-generation of consoles other than timing, as it really doesn't show the next level of gaming we're beginning to expect.
Overall, "Manhunt 2" doesn't reach the quality and equal the amount of hype that it was given. While not horribly bad, "Manhunt 2" is far from a blockbuster; it's about as average as a game can get.
