Although the Kirkwood Eagles volleyball team did not end the season as they had hoped, the Eagles still accomplished much this year.
Several Kirkwood players received individual awards. Tomomi Sakurai was the Region XI B All Tournament Team MVP and was Second Team All-Region. Tiffany Anderson achieved the Region XI B All Tournament Team and was an honorable mention for the All-Region team. Kirsten Smith made First Team All-Region and Second Team All-Conference and Hanna Bruns was placed on Second Team All-Region.
The Eagles had a tough start at the beginning of their season, winning only one out of five games during the Kellogg Tournament in Battle Creek, Mich . However, they finished the season winning three out of four games during the Lincoln Land Invite and went 5-5 with their last 10 games.
"Our focus from the beginning to the end of the season was getting better," said Jill Williams, head volleyball coach, "we got to the regional championship, which was our goal from day one."
The season came to a close with a loss against DMACC at the Region XI B Championship game (23 -30, 22 - 30, 25 - 30). The Eagles finished with a record of 7-1 within their division and 17-26 overall.
Williams is optimistic about next year. "The one advantage we'll have next year is we have eight freshman this year, so we'll have more sophomore leadership."
