The music of Hunab is a culmination of jam-psychedelic, rock-reggae-funk-fusion with compositions that are lengthy and genre-spanning.

Some of the band members first came together while attending Kirkwood Community College and playing at venues like Tornados and 3rd Street Live. Members of Hunab include Scott McDermott, guitar and vocals; Collin Braley, auxiliary percussion, keyboard, vibes and vocals; Joe Kalb, guitar and vocals; Luke Mescher, drums; and Derek Pulliam, bass.

"I met Collin and Derek at the old Kirkwood Courts in 2005. I used to jam to their shows at Tornados in Cedar Rapids and now I escapade to see them in Iowa City. They're the flowinest band out there," said Seth Ludeking , 2006 Kirkwood alum and horticulture major.

"The first show we ever played together was the battle of the bands at Kirkwood and we won it. That was a great starting point for us, having that at the top of our resume," said Collin Braley.

The release of their album "Random Coincidences" has given fans the opportunity to spread the music of Hunab beyond the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area. "I am in love with Hunab," said Willis Pearson, art major

These days Hunab is drawing an ever more regional fan base after an exciting summer of numerous festival appearances including the 10,000 Lakes Festival, Harvest Fest, Camp Euforia, Solstice Shakedown, Mother Nature's Ball, Dogstock and Bela Luna.

The group recently took the top spot at the Waka Winter Classic, a battle of the bands hosted at the Picador in Iowa City. Hunab will now be invited to play at the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival in Lawrence, Kan.

June 5-8. They will be joined by a dizzying array of acts like The Flaming Lips, Cake, Keller Williams, Blackalicious, the music of the late Frank Zappa performed by his son Dweezil, State Radio and Arrested Development among many others.

According to Wakarusa.com, the 2007 event featured over 100 musical acts and drew attendees from all 50 U.S. states and several countries. This year will mark the fifth anniversary of Wakarusa and the festival organizers have several surprises planned. Early bird tickets and information are now available at www.Wakarusa.com.
