Imagine being a paid intern at Walt Disney World while taking college courses at the same time. It may be difficult to imagine but the Disney College Program boasts that it can make student dreams come true.
Walt Disney World is offering the Disney College Program to Kirkwood Community College students who are looking to build skills in their field of study.
Recruiters representing the Disney College Program will be visiting Kirkwood Wednesday, Feb. 20 and Thursday, Feb. 21 with a presentation describing the living, learning and earning opportunities that students will experience while being an intern for a Fortune 100 company.
"Going to the Disney internship can help you in many ways. If you attend, you learn how to manage your money, you also learn how to work with people all over the world. Having this Disney Internship on your resume really stands out to many employers," said Marketing instructor Bob Walker.
Kirkwood offers credit hours students can take if participating in the internship. "Kirkwood, unlike many other schools, offers up to nine credit hours with the Disney internship. The internship is open to all majors and you have to have a GPA above a 2.0 to qualify for the internship," Walker stated.
Participants will live at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando throughout their internship. In addition to the experience gained, participants will have the opportunity to meet Disney leaders and network to gain a clearer understanding of what they want to do with their future.
Students can choose whether they want to serve a five- or seven-month internship. "Usually eight to 15 Kirkwood students attend the internship per semester," said Walker. "This is a great program for students. I encourage everybody to come out because it really is a life changing experience. I interview all the students when they come back and they say that the experience helped them in their field of study and overall its a fun program to be apart of."
