Eagle pride is alive and well in Johnson Hall. Even Sammy is getting in on the fun.
The Kirkwood Community College Eagle basketball teams are both at the height of their schedules right now. Both are fighting for dominance of their conferences and a coveted spot in the national tournament.
The women are defending National Champions and are currently ranked third nationally. The men are holding up their dominance of the NJCAA Division II poll at number two and have only lost one game this season. The more student support these teams have, the better.
Student Life has done a great job getting students to come to the recent home games. With Sammy the Eagle appearances, free pizza, t-shirts and student games and prizes at half time, Student Life has given students even more reason to come out in the wintry weather to support the decorated basketball programs.
These games give the athletes and students something to look forward to during the week. It gives athletes the excitement of playing in front of peers and it gives students a break from their apartments and books.
With all of the fun activities that Student Life has been sponsoring, the atmosphere at recent games has been electric.
Fans have been chanting, with free slices of pizza in hand, as the games come down to the wire. Members of other Kirkwood athletic teams, faculty and staff have been in attendance and the morale has been high.
So, thank you Student Life for helping Kirkwood students support their peers and help make this gloomy winter a little more exciting.
And good luck to the Eagle basketball programs as they start their quests to their respective national tournaments.
On Saturday, the Eagles will face off against Iowa Lakes. The game will be played in honor of breast cancer awareness.
