Want to graduate? Learn how to park

Weather leads to many mishaps at Kirkwood Community College. One example is student parking. Finding a place to park at Kirkwood is time consuming and with all the recent weather it has made it even more difficult.
All students who drive to campus have taken Driver's Ed or at least a drivers license exam. People don't just walk into the DMV and see driver's licenses in a basket with a sign that reads, "Take one please." So if you can't see the yellow parking lines for goodness sake at least park in a straight line or close enough to the car next to you so there is room for other students to park.
We are all victims of this behavior and its extremely careless. Don't be "that guy" and make it harder on everyone else. Personally I don't mind walking the extra distance but there are students who do. It's also aggravating when you have to spend an extra five to 10 minutes looking for a parking spot when you're trying to make it to class on time. So, pay attention and remember you are not the only one who is attending classes and running on a set schedule.
Not only is finding a parking spot a pain but it's the students who take it to the next level of being inconsiderate for other drivers like parking where they aren't suppose to. In front of the library, for example, there are timed parking spots. If you're not going to be in and out in the allotted time then don't park there.
Tom Spartz, head of security, said he generally writes over 1,000 tickets per semester for many reasons. Tickets are given for double parking, parking in fire lanes and parking over the limited time. Tickets are $5 and $10 after a five-day period.
There are many students who don't care and some who just throw their tickets in the trash. But, let me remind you that unpaid parking tickets go on your financial aid as a debt and can also cause you not to graduate if they are not paid.
So don't go around thinking you won't get caught and no one is paying attention. It is not worth adding to your financial aid. So, please stop creating hassles for everyone else and just park where there is room and park correctly.
