Alleviating post-break blues

Spring break is over and it's time to return to class but that doesn't mean that the fun has to end. There are still plenty of entertainment possibilities in Iowa City to help Kirkwood Community College students relax without having to board a plane.
There is live music from local bands every week at the Yacht Club on Linn Street and The Picador on Washington Avenue. The Picador has a Web site at www.thepicador.com with a list of upcoming shows as well as ticket prices. Both places feature a variety of bands ranging from rock to rap and covers to originals.
Now that spring is here there are a lot of outdoor activities, too. "When it's warm my favorite thing to do is probably disk golf. There are three or four pretty good courses around Iowa City," said Kirkwood student Mike Herrity, major undecided. "Sugarbottom, out by the Res in North Liberty, is probably my favorite," Herrity added.
Iowa City also has restaurants that offer a lot of diversity. From quick foods at the vendors in the Ped Mall to casual restaurants to upscale dining there's a variety of options to satisfy the appetites of hungry students. "808 is one of my favorite places. All of my buddies hang out there so that's cool," said Kirkwood student Kile Boetger, major undecided.
Herrity added, "Los Portales is pretty cheep and has good food. You can't beat the unlimited chips and salsa."
Iowa City offers options to help the students at Kirkwood unwind after a hard week or just to blow off a little steam on a weeknight. "Iowa City is a cool place because there are a lot of people. We have Kirkwood and University of Iowa and students here like to have fun," said Boetger.
