The Kirkwood Community College restrooms do not depict the conditions of the rest of the campus. Instead of a clean, well-kept, sanitary facility, the Kirkwood bathrooms make many wish there was an outhouse nearby they could use instead.

When walking into one of the many restrooms at Kirkwood, with the exception of the restrooms in Nielsen Hall, students are immediately overwhelmed by the stench coming from the stalls.

In the women's restroom, the smell attacks the patrons from the moment they walk in. Not to mention that when a person actually enters one of these stalls, there is guaranteed to be a large puddle surrounding the toilet.

Also, it would seem that most female college students don't know how to flush because every time someone goes in they can expect to find at least one clogged toilet, even though they are "automatic flushers."

In the men's restroom, it's not much better. According to many male students, there is urine everywhere, including on the walls and the toilet seats.

Toilet paper is strewn all over the place because apparently most men don't know how to throw away their trash, either.

These restrooms are left in unacceptable conditions and in large part it's due to the people that frequent these bathrooms. While there are certain things that do happen in restrooms that could create a mess, overall these problems are caused by people who don't care enough to throw away trash, flush, wipe their seat, etc.

The janitorial staff cannot possibly police what slob students leave behind. Since everyone at Kirkwood is high school age or above, they should be able to take care of their business without having someone clean up after them.

Not only is this disgusting, it is also a major heath issue. Unsanitary restrooms can cause serious health risks, especially in the winter months during flu season.

The solution to these filthy restrooms is simple: When students use the campus bathrooms they need to show respect for others and clean up after themselves.

Maybe the next time someone uses the Kirkwood restrooms, they won't be disgusted by the conditions of these facilities. And students will find them preferable to outhouses.
