It has been a year of firsts for the Kirkwood Community College women's basketball team. They won their first back-to-back NJCAA Division II national championships. And now, for the first time, they have two players named first team All-Americans.

Sophomores Lauren Thomas-Johnson and Breann Hill were named first team All-American by the NJCAA. This honor comes after these Eagles accomplished about all they could on the junior college stage.

"Lauren and Bre are two good kids who bought into what we wanted to do," Coach Kim Muhl said. "They're obviously good players but also they're good people."

Thomas-Johnson, a sophomore from Manchester, England, averaged 13.1 points per-game for the Eagles this season. She was named the MVP of the national tournament. As a freshman Thomas-Johnson earned first team all-region honors.

Hill, a sophomore from Harrisburg, Penn., averaged 14.2 points and 8 boards this season for the Eagles. She was named second team all-conference as a freshman and was named to the all-tournament team at this year's national tournament.

Both Thomas-Johnson and Hill will play basketball at Marquette University next year. The Golden Eagles defeated Big 10 Michigan State 81-66 to win the WNIT championship on April 4.

Thomas-Johnson and Hill join an elite group of Kirkwood athletes as All-American selections.

Jazmine Sepulveda, who was first team All-American last season, now plays at the University of South Florida.

The Eagles closed out their season with a 31-6 record and a national championship, the fourth for Kirkwood under Muhl.
