Super Size 7 will be performing a concert Thursday, Aug. 21 outside Benton Hall at 8:30 p.m. This is only one of the many free events that Kirkwood Community College will be offering to start the school year.
Seth Vander Tuig, student life coordinator, said, "I am hoping for nice weather and a lot of people to attend."
Welcome Week is one way to get new students involved on campus. It consists of activities that take place Aug. 18 through Aug. 22. There will be music, games, free food and lots of prizes.
Kelsey Williams, administrative assistant major, said, "Welcome Week was a lot of fun last year and people won a lot of free goodies so I hope that this year is just as fun because I am kind of excited."
There will be a Volleyball Tailgate Match and Cookout on Wednesday, Aug. 27 starting at 5:30 p.m. outside Johnson Hall. This will give all students a chance to show their school spirit and get involved with their peers. On Thursday, Aug. 28 an improv group will be performing "Sex Signals" in Ballantyne Auditorium at 11 a.m. The show is about dating and how behaviors can be misunderstood.
According to Tera Smith, admissions advisor, some of the free food includes hotdogs, chips, ice cream, tacos and soft drinks.
All Kirkwood students are encouraged to attend Welcome Week activities and participate in the free events.
