"It was great to have his work coaching pay off and get his 1,000 win. We really played as a team. It was a huge accomplishment," stated outfielder Jordan Nuss, general education.
Lewis has been a coach at Kirkwood for 29 years and led the Kirkwood Eagles to four Junior College World Series appearances, among many other achievements.
Though many members of the team and coaching staff knew that Lewis was nearing his 1,000th win, he stated, "It was just another game for us to play." Lewis said he looks to each year as a year to improve and get to the State and National Tournaments.
"For any type of sports' coach it is a great accomplishment to reach 1,000 wins," stated pitcher Kevin Belk, Liberal Arts.
While Lewis has been at Kirkwood, he said that he is happy with the athletes that he had and what they have accomplished while playing baseball.
