Students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution are invited to attend Kirkwood Community College’s Transfer Fair Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the third floor of Iowa Hall.

Laura Riley, Advising and Transfer Center coordinator, said the transfer fair is a good place to look at other colleges and see what they have to offer.

Alex Garrett, physical therapist assistant, stated, “We need it for us to know about the colleges and see if we are ready to transfer.” He added that it is “convenient because the schools are here and that saves gas.”

Representatives from more than 20 colleges will be at the transfer fair, including both in- and out-of-state colleges, according to Riley. The top five schools that most Kirkwood students transfer will be at the fair: The University of Northern Iowa, Mount Mercy University, Iowa State University, Coe College and the University of Iowa.

“We bring over 20 colleges from Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri, representing Drake University, Cornell College, Trinity College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Western Illinois University and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, among others,” said Riley.

She added, “This fair is a good opportunity for students to shop for schools and it can help them narrow ideas as to where they are heading after Kirkwood. Students could also find out about majors offered, application deadlines, scholarships available and placement rates for graduates.”

Robert Nelson, Liberal Arts, stated, “You can take from it what the tuition is and what they can offer you as far as grants and scholarships and overall college environment.”

Arts and Humanities Coordinator Jennifer Cunningham said she encourages students to attend the event.

She stated, “It is important to explore all transfer options and students may discover a really good school they initially didn’t know about. ”For more information, visit the Advising and Transfer Center in 108 Iowa Hall or logon to
