Time capsule offers glimpse of changes on- and off-campus

As Kirkwood Community College marks its 50th anniversary, a time capsule from 25 years ago was released to indicate how much the College has progressed. Bottom, a picture of the time capsule that was opened this year to mark Kirkwood’s 50-year anniversary. Inside was a copy of the Nov. 7, 1991, issue of the Communiqué (top) and a receipt from Randall Foods in Cedar Rapids (middle), to show changes in the cost of living. Items were submitted by students and faculty members and also included calculators, books and floppy disks, which can now be viewed in the display case next to the Iowa Hall Gallery. Kirkwood plans to reseal the time capsule with new items, to be reopened in another 25 years, which will mark the college’s 75th anniversary.
