Men's basketball looking to improve with defense
With a current record of 20-4 the Kirkwood Community College Eagles have their eye on the prize this basketball season.
Bryan Petersen, men’s basketball head coach, and the Kirkwood men’s basketball team is almost at the end of their season with regional play beginning the first week of March. The KCC Eagles are hoping to move up from their current No. 2 spot to No.1 and to bring home another banner, said Petersen.
According to Petersen, the two teams that the Eagles are competing with at the top of their conference in the NJCAA are South Western Community College and Iowa Lakes Community College. The Eagles are averaging around 88 points per game, which is the highest in the conference. Petersen added the team allows an average of 60 points per game.
Petersen said, “This year’s team has more depth and is more athletic than last year’s team and if the Eagles play their best, I believe that they cannot be beat in their division.”
He added the team also wants to improve their defense. “There are a lot of new guys this year and it has been a work in progress to get better on the floor,” Petersen said.
The Eagles next game is at home on Feb, 20 against Iowa Central Community College in Johnson Hall.
