Women stomp Ellsworth in opening regional game

By Keith Norem

No. 52 Sophomore Madison Wood takes control of the ball in a game against Ellsworth Community College on March 1 in Johnson Hall.

In the opening round of regional play the Kirkwood Community College women’s basketball team sent a message to the rest of the conference destroying Ellsworth Community College, 103-51.

Unofficially, Abbie Oberman, who dropped 20 points, led the team. But, as usual, the team played its entire bench and each Eagle contributed to help the team succeed.

The women sent a message to the league that their lack luster performance on sophomore day losing to North Iowa Area Community College was nothing more than an aberration.  According to the players, it was a day that disappointed the entire team, however solid teams seem to find a way to bounce back and the Eagles did just that against ECC.

The Kirkwood women will next face their rival Des Moines Area Community College on Thursday, March 3, in Johnson Hall to try and take one more step toward winning the regional tournament and stamping their ticket to nationals.
