Women Eagles look to close the season strong

The Kirkwood Community College women’s basketball team declared victory in its conference championship and is moving on to regionals.

Head women’s basketball coach Kim Muhl said he has been leading the Eagles for the past 27 seasons and his approach has not changed due to the recent success of his team.

“If you haven’t figured it out by now you don’t deserve to be in the regional playoffs,” Muhl said.

Muhl said he and his staff approach each game the same no matter the opponent or the stakes.  “This has helped the team stay consistent throughout the season,” he said.

Mul added, “The players are aware of their role and contributions to the team. They are an unselfish team that play for one another and this makes them a very cohesive unit.”

Chemistry is key, according to Muhl. The seasoned basketball coach stated, “The depth of the team is a major factor when it comes to their overall strength. They have many key contributors on the bench. They come in the game and the team doesn’t miss a beat. The chemistry of a team is a very important factor. If the team doesn’t gel as a unit it is hard to get a rhythm going in the game.”

Muhl said the team could improve by “cutting down on turnovers and playing a better team defense.”

The coach said his approach hasn’t changed much in his many years at Kirkwood. “Consistency is important to bring to every practice and game,” said Muhl.

With an impressive record of 26-4 and a 13-0 conference record, the Eagles will soar in the playoffs with high expectations.
