The Eagles practice indoors at the Rec Center in preparation for their first tournament. The "Battle of Bealle Street" tournament is March 14-15 in Memphis Tenn., and will feature mostly four-year universities in the 12-team tournament.

The Eagle “linksters” at Kirkwood Community College have been quietly building their muscles, minds and skills over the winter months to be able to take flight and soar this spring.

The men’s golf team is preparing for the grind of the season to get under way.  The men are going to be tested right out of the gates this year.

The Eagles will be hitting the links for the first time March 14-15 in the “Battle of Bealle Street” in Memphis, Tenn.   This will be a huge test out the gate as this 12-team field will be mainly made up of four year colleges.

Darin Pint, head golf coach, said, “This will also be an excellent opportunity for the sophomores to showcase their talents for future opportunities to receive scholarships from four year schools.  Even the freshman can impress four year coaches or scouts but most of all, we are all just excited to get going.”

Pint said he will be looking for leadership from Carson Whittington this season as well as freshman Charlie Hartwig. “Carson is a tough kid. He competes so hard he may not look good at times during a round but he fights and grinds until he succeeds he said.”

Pint also said that freshman Hartwig seems to be a leader by example. “He goes to class, he takes care of his grades, he lifts weights and he goes to work in practice that seems to carry over onto the course as well,” said Pint.

Pint also said Jordan Even and Eddie Doyle will be key components as well this season. “Each of these two will need to focus and be contributors to the team, both are more than capable and I look forward in seeing who steps up,” he said.

The rest of the team is working extremely hard according to Pint and he said he finds it entertaining to see all of his men fighting for the competition spots on the team.  Pint stated, “The top four look like they are pretty solid over what we got to see in the fall but we have three very capable guys fighting for a spot.”

Pint added he enjoys that each of them show signs of being great but he is waiting for someone to take that spot and own it.

Following the trip to Memphis the golf team will travel to Springfield, Ill., to play in a 12-team tournament on March 19 - 20.  The Eagles will try to tame “The Rail Golf Course” against another field expected to be primarily four-year colleges.

Following this spring fling they will host their first competition at Hunters Ridge on March 27 - 28. Play will begin at noon that Sunday.
