Men's Basketball advances to finals

The Kirkwood men’s basketball team left nothing to doubt Thursday night as they man handled the Iowa Central Community College Tritons 90-61.

The Eagles started a little slow but really turned it on as the game progressed.  The Eagles were very balanced in their attack with unofficially 6 players scoring in double digits.

Da Rion King established himself as a dominant inside presence in this game unofficially scoring 16, while Kaliph Fagan seemed unstoppable as he continued to drive to the bucket and unofficially scored 21.

Following the game Coach Bryan Petersen stated “we did not play our best on the offensive end for a good chunk of the game, but our defense was very good.” Petersen is referring to the fact that his team kept the three guards in check from ICCC. “Those three are good players and really make them go” said
Petersen. “I was extremely proud that we held them to 33 percent shooting as a team and made them earn every point” Petersen exclaimed.

The Eagles will look forward to a finals match up Saturday evening against Iowa Lakes Community College.  The men have split the two match ups they have had this season with the Eagles winning on the home floor of ILCC, and having faced defeat on Kirkwood’s home floor.

Petersen said “it is going to be a tough game, but I like the fact that we are at home.”  The Eagles have only lost two games in Johnson Hall this season, so it may bode well for the men.

There was an outstanding crowd in Johnson Hall to help push the Eagles through to the finals, if the same atmosphere shows up Saturday, the Eagles will be inspired to play another great game.
