Some students at Kirkwood Community College are not traveling for spring break due work, fi nances or other reasons. However, students who are looking for a change in scenery can explore different locations in Iowa for a fraction of the cost ofsome vacations.

The Iowa Great Lakes area provides breathtaking scenery with affordable hotels and plenty of entertainment with everything from Arnolds Park to the Iowa Rock N’ Roll Music Association Museum.

Even if students have never seen one of the Dukes movies, the John Wayne Birthplace and Museum is home to historic facts and items of one of Iowa’s most famous natives. Located in his hometown of Winterset, this is the only museum in the world that is dedicated solely to John Wayne. The museum is open daily.

If students want a taste of Dutch culture, then Pella is a town to consider. Dutch culture is everywhere in Pella even at fast food restaurants and gas stations. Pella is about a two-hour drive from Kirkwood, making it an option for a day trip. The Field of Dreams was made famous in the movie of the same name. Located in Dyersville, this is one place students should consider if movie history is an interest.

Tacopocalypse is a unique restaurant with Asian inspired tacos that caught the attention of Guy Fieri and was featured on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. Located in Des Moines East Village, this place is defi nitely worth the drive if students want to try a braised pork taco. Also located in Des Moines
is Zombie Burger. The restaurant is known for its unique
menu featuring such sandwiches as “The Elvis” which has peanut butter, fried bananas, bacon, American cheese and mayo.
Finally Snake Alley is a Burlington street that Ripley’s Believe It or Not called “The crookedest street in the world. The street is 275 feet long with
seven curves.
