Eagles' season ends with shocking loss to DMACC

Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) came to Cedar Rapids and shocked the No. 3 team in the country on its home floor on March 3.

The Kirkwood Community College women’s basketball team was pushed around for four straight quarters and lost the game 54 - 66.

DMACC opened up an 18-point lead by halftime and the Eagles never got closer than 10.

No matter what Coach Kim Muhl tried the Bears from DMACC had an answer. Muhl stated, “You have to make shots, it is that simple.” He was referring to the 1 for 18 shooting behind the arc and unofficially 33 percent from the field as a team.

Muhl also commented, “They played harder than we did. It was obvious when their center was getting lay-ups in transition and we were terrible on getting back.”

After the game Muhl said, “We had a good season, won another conference championship, were ranked high, we just didn’t finish the way we were capable.”

When asked if he was shocked by the loss Muhl said, “Not as much as some. I knew that they (DMACC) have been playing their best ball lately. We were lucky to win when we visited their place.”
